Lake Havasu High School seniors Angela Flores and Kaylee Kuczynski advanced to the final round of a culinary competition in Phoenix.
The two will compete March 9 against 23 other students in the second round of the Careers through Culinary Arts Program contest in Phoenix.
The students must prepare a French chicken dish with tourne potatoes and a chocolate crepe. “Flores and Kuczynski hope to secure possible full ride scholarships to culinary school,” said their instructor Karla Desper.
“Each student is guaranteed a scholarship and or internship at this point.” She said that in the contest, “judges commented on the cleanliness of their work stations and, of course, their plate presentation was on point.” Locally, students are trained at the Havasu campus of the Western Arizona Vocational Education (WAVE).
The three-year culinary arts program is open to students in grades 10 through 12.
