A man accused in an alleged rampage involving a machete will appear in court later this month on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police say 60-year-old Dirk. E. Hull was in the drive-through of the McDonalds restaurant on Swanson Avenue around 11 p.m. on June 21, and he became upset about the time he would have to wait for his food.

Hull allegedly began to shout obscenities at an employee and the restaurant’s manager, until the manager chose to return his money rather than serving him. According to alleged witness statements, Hull rose from his vehicle to confront the manager – without shifting his vehicle into “park.”

Hull’s vehicle rolled away from him, the report said, and Hull climbed back inside. He allegedly drove away before parking his vehicle at the side of the business, blocking the exit to the restaurant’s drive-through. When the customer behind him honked to get Hull’s attention, police say Hull emerged from his vehicle once more, now armed with a machete.

According to police, Hull approached the victim’s vehicle and swung the weapon through her driver’s-side window, which officers say the she narrowly avoided. The victim suffered only minor injuries from the broken glass of her vehicle’s window, according to the report.

Hull allegedly returned to his vehicle and drove away, but video surveillance cameras at the restaurant allegedly captured his license plate. Although officers were unable to locate Hull at the scene, they later found Hull at his Medicine Bow Drive address, the report said.

According to police, Hull initially denied having been at the restaurant. He would later change his story, the report said, admitting that he had been at the restaurant, but that there was no altercation at the location. Officers said Hull appeared to be visibly intoxicated when questioned.

Hull was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct with a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in Mohave Superior Court July 22 for his arraignment.
