The defendant in a civil traffic court hearing was arrested Tuesday on charges of disorderly conduct and contempt of court after an incident that ultimately led to him being subdued with an electronic stun device by law enforcement officers.
Travis Ramsey, 24, was scheduled to appear in court to answer a civil traffic complaint, according to Lake Havasu City Police Sgt. Jerry Burns. As officers presented the case against Ramsey, the defendant became unruly, Burns said.
A municipal court judge ordered Ramsey removed from the courtroom, but Ramsey allegedly attempted to pull away from the bailiff. Officers at the scene assisted the bailiff in escorting Ramsey from the courtroom, Burns said, but Ramsey continued to struggle. Officers subdued Ramsey with an electronic stun device, and he was arrested at the scene.
Ramsey asked to be screened for potential medical issues at Havasu Regional Medical Center prior to his transportation to Lake Havasu City Jail, Burns said.
