A Lake Havasu City woman remains in Mohave County Jail this week as she awaits trial on ten felony counts including multiple drug-related charges and burglary. Christy A. Whitaker, 44, is scheduled to appear in Mohave Superior Court Sept. 3 for a pre-trial conference.
Lake Havasu City Police officers arrested Whitaker on Aug. 2, after receiving reports that she burglarized a Kiowa Boulevard business. Video surveillance footage allegedly showed Whitaker, who was identified by store employees, entering through a chained gate at the rear of the property with another person. Shortly after the footage showed them entering, the report said, Whitaker and her associate departed with a small safe from the business.
According to the report, the safe contained items including a credit card reader, keys to the business’s filing cabinet, a key to the front door of the business, a key to the business’ mailbox, several inoperable mobile phones and about $200 in cash.
Whitaker was later located by officers, and arrested on charges including third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal damage to property, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics. There were also three felony warrants for her arrest on charges of failure to appear at previous court hearings.
At the time of her arrest, Whitaker was free on $500 bond and awaiting trial on unreleated charges of possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Whitaker’s attorneys have asked that her $7,500 bond be reduced because of her job, pending appointments with mental health professionals and her pets. Prosecutors have challenged defense attorneys’ request, citing an alleged history of alcohol and drug use by Whitaker.
