Editor: I write in response to Ms. Blackmore who has appointed herself as editor of free speech in the Todays News-Herald’s letters column. She takes exception with Mr. Ed Schweizer on his political letters in this column. All of the letters in this column have a name at the end of them. If she does not agree with Mr. Schweizer look for his name and simply don’t read them. I myself find the frequent letters from Mr. Tunnell and Mr. Keating quite amusing, as they spout off their utopian liberal socialistic stupidity. I sincerely hope they will continue writing!
I include quotes from the past regarding free speech:
“Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people’s idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage.” — Winston Churchill
“There is no such thing as free speech for some. You either have free speech for everyone or you don’t have free speech at all.” — Thor Benson
“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.” — George Washington
“The framers of the Constitution knew that free speech is the friend of change and revolution. But they also knew that it is always the deadliest enemy of tyranny.” — Hugo Black, Justiceof the U.S. Supreme Court.
It is my sincerest hope that our institutions of higher learning re-evaluate their “speech codes”, “safe spaces”, censorship and return to sanity with regard to “Freedom of speech and the press” as stated in the first amendment of our US Constitution.
